A bit about me

My name’s Angie. I was created in a small town in nowhere Ohio and started the aging process in 1979. Growing up there didn’t allow for much exposure to the outside world aside from National Geographic magazines and flipping through the channels of my 19” television that died once a week. Of course I didn’t think much about this lack of influence until I started high school, and even then thought my best option was something in the medical field. I excelled at just about everything in school and looked to continue with medicine, up until I attended my first elective art class instructed by Sam Shaffer. After a year I was hooked and couldn’t think of anything I else I would rather do. I found that I had an eye for picking the world apart in different perspectives and throwing it back out with my own twist on it. This was my natural obsession and I threw every other option out of the window. I continue on with that mindset and vision of the world and utilize it in just about everything I do. It’s driven me in life and it will certainly take me to my grave.

Artist Statement:

“So venture deep into your subconscious and deal with what you see.” This is what I search for in creating my artwork, and holds far more importance for me in what I do. With that in mind the work seems to create itself. I start from one point of focus in most cases, a line or a blob of color, and let the imagination work from that, constantly taking into consideration what is there already before making the next move. Then the detail starts to fill in, layering until my gut tells me that the piece has gone far enough.

I tend to delete or make obscure any meaning so that your imagination is forced to construct a reaction based your own thoughts, emotions, and life. In my experience that is what draws viewers to my work and keeps it in their minds. I’m simply a messenger, allowing the pieces to bridge communication between the outside world and your subconscious.
