Nose Hearts Grindstone. Film At 11

Hey everybody!

We’ve been working like a colony of bees lately.
The productive kind, not the angry, “follow you up to 3 times the normal distance and sting you 8 to 10 more times than their regular Americanized cousins” type of colony, I should say.

In part, what that means is,

The Tale is in the End @ 826 Valencia - Workshop day 2

Notes to self for next workshop:

  1. Create & bring sample Story Maps pre-filled.
  2. Some of those should be for well-known books & movies.
  3. Start workshops with questions about what they learned last time.
  4. Class voting for Story Map contents.
  5. Make sure each student has one map item per exercise.
  6. Add ‘name’ fields to materials.
  7. The paper thing, re: last post.
  8. Be mindful of my apparent obsession with lists.

“I thought you said there wouldn’t be much paperwork,” said the sharp and precocious blond locked girl of twelve.

Yes, there was still too much paper. Why didn’t I learn from last time?

Yes, I gave out lots of paper. Yes, I babbled, though no one told me so. Whew.

Day 1 went swimmingly, despite the deluge of paper. I shall not provide mostly-blank pages for brainstorming lists anymore. I shall however continue much the same otherwise since the kids responded very well. I have full lists for each of the eight different brainstorming activities, and completed Story Maps from each of the nine students to prove it.

Kids is some smarties, I tells ya.

My co-teacher Eric Myers and I were quite impressed with the creativity and the willingness to contribute to the class dialogue.

And, as you can see by our own Story Map, we are well on our way to a riveting tale.

Until next week…

2nd editions of Brainchild and God's Acre

Independent distributor Enemi Entertainment now has 2nd editions of Brainchild and God’s Acre available through their catalog.

God’s Acre’s second edition is the same as the first, though it is not a limited edition (copies of the first edition are still available here).

Brainchild’s second edition on the other hand has a few surprises. We removed the three advertisement pages and replaced them with three new artworks. The edition isn’t limited, but it’s improved!

Here’s a weekly roundup of goings-on.

New ‘Pocket’ section

We’ve added a new section to the site called the Pocket which you can access either in the top navigation or on the sidebar. A conjunction of “populace” and “bucket”, it’s meant as a place for anyone who wants to submit content to do so. Read the specifics here .

Lunchboxheads, Upgrades, and Upcoming

in

There’s nothing quite like seeing a perfectly respectable mid-sixties woman in her evening wear on a hot sunny summer San Francisco day with a lime green vinyl lunch box atop her head. That was the scene at my favorite lunch spot today, Yerba Buena Gardens, where the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra put on a one-hour free concert. With a full belly and the sun beating down on your face, the heavy metal timpani makes your chest swell with drama and life. Ahhh. Oh yes, they gave out free vinyl insulated lunch boxes, and someone told the audience to use them as hats. At least 25% of the crowd believed them, the most proper of the audience being surprisingly the most willing.

TTA Press review of Brainchild

in

TTA Press posted a review by Peter Tennant today of ‘Brainchild…a collection of artifacts’.

Thanks Pete and Andy! Here’s the review:

“This is the way the world ends. Courtesy of Romero reborn, Shaun of the Dead and a slew of bestselling Horror novels, the coming zombie apocalypse has about it a sense of immediacy that sitting around waiting for peak oil or the polar ice caps to melt just can’t compete with.

And hence this book, the first production off the line from new kid on the block Omnibucket, slim as a supermodel and every bit as drop dead gorgeous, with emphasis on the dead, and the intriguing tag line ‘a collection of artifacts’, but actually what we’re talking about is short stories, articles and artwork, all of them featuring those flesh eating zombies we love to hate. In tone it reminded me of nothing so much as the grounding moments in a Living Dead movie, with news reports coming in over the wire and earnest commentators trying to make sense of it all, while the army shoots first and asks questions later, and all of these snapshots and individual stories, the necessary adjuncts to our suspension of disbelief, interweaving to convey the immediacy of disaster on a global scale and empowering us to think the unthinkable.

Installation at the Berkeley Public Library

Angie & I installed an 8’ × 4’ x 1’ God’s Acre exhibit in the public display case at the Berkeley Public Library on Tuesday. The installation features 15 prints, a few scenes with the sculptures, and some custom-made posters on stands.

It looks quite cool! Take a look…though pardon the terrible lighting.

Ferret Press' art-book entry

in

Angie & I were asked to submit a piece of art for Dara Naraghi’s newest Ferret Press art-book for which he has chosen, appropriately, the theme of ferrets.

Though Dara assuredly wasn’t expecting anything written, we decided to put this together and shipped it off to him, to good response. Enjoy!
